Betty Thompson

Betty Thompson is the Chair of SHRM’s Board of Directors. Betty joined the SHRM Board in 2019 and was named Chair in 2023. Betty has decades of human resources, executive leadership and board experience.

Betty served as Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer for Booz Allen Hamilton (NYE:BAH) from 2008 to 2024. She led a complete reimagining of the firm’s employee value proposition and executive talent management processes, as well as the reshaping of recruitment, retention, and development programs. Under Betty’s leadership, the workforce was transformed to be a leading provider of advanced technology solutions with highly skilled, innovative and diverse talent.

Brian Mallaro

Brian Mallaro is a recently retired Deloitte partner.  During his 39 years at Deloitte Brian led the relationship with many large clients, primarily in the Minneapolis office.  Brian also led the sales organization for Deloitte’s Audit and Assurance business.   Brian was heavily involved in hiring and developing Deloitte professionals and continues to serve as a mentor to many current and former Deloitte professional.  Brian is also a board member for Phoji, a Texas based technology company and Accola, a Minnesota based not for profit service organization.

Luz María Frías

Luz María Frías most recently served as Deputy Attorney General for the State of Minnesota where she oversaw a broad portfolio of executive branch entities. She was the first Latina Deputy Attorney General in the Office’s 170-year history. Lastly, she served as faculty for the National Attorney General Training & Research Institute.

A noted public policy strategist and thought leader on race and gender equity for more than 30

years, she previously served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Minneapolis, where she was responsible for a budget of over $24 million through a dedicated staff of nearly 600 employees. She holds Master’s and Juris Doctor Degrees from the University of Iowa.

Matt Bostrom

Matt grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota and served for six years as Ramsey County Sheriff. Before he was elected sheriff, Matt served with the Saint Paul Police Department, where he held various roles, including Police Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Commander, Senior Commander, Chief of Staff, and Assistant Chief of Operations. Matt received his formal education at the University of Northwestern (Bachelor of Science), University of Saint Thomas (Master of Arts), Hamline University (Doctor of Public Administration), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Criminology) at the University of Oxford. At the University of Oxford, Matt developed a replicable model for increasing trust by identifying and aligning shared values. In brief, increased organizational trust and performance can be achieved through values-based strategic planning and the alignment and operationalization of shared values.
